Welcome to Charlotte County!

-Patrick Henry

The first half of Fiscal Tax Year 2019-2020 real estate and personal property statements have been mailed and are due by December 5, 2019. Failure to receive a bill does not relieve the taxpayer of any additional charges.

If you have not received a statement, please contact the Treasurer’s Office at (434) 542-5125.  If the tax due date falls on Saturday or Sunday, taxes are due the next business day.

Treasurer’s Office Hours are
 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.
In observance of Thanksgiving, Charlotte County government offices will close at noon on Wednesday, November 27th and will reopen on Monday, December 2nd.

Charlotte County Recycle Centers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 28th), and will operate on their regular schedules the rest of the week.

The Board of Equalization for the County of Charlotte will meet on the days hereafter listed for the purpose of hearing complaints of inequalities including errors in acreage. Upon hearing such complaints, either oral or written, the Board will give consideration AND INCREASE, DECREASE OR AFFIRM such real estate assessments. Before a change can be granted, the taxpayer or his agent must overcome a clear presumption in favor of the assessment. The taxpayer or agent must provide a preponderance of the evidence that the assessment of the property is not uniform with the assessments of other similar properties or that the property is assessed in excess of its fair market value.

Appointments will be scheduled every 15 minutes to minimize waiting. To appear before the Board of Equalization, please call 434-547-4032 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Meetings of the Board to hear objections will be held at the Charlotte County Administration Building, Suite A, 250 LeGrande Avenue, Charlotte Court House, Virginia,

Notice - Roadside Cleanup

Due to unseasonably warm weather earlier this Fall and the upcoming hunting season, we are not organizing a Countywide volunteer roadside clean-up this season.  However, whenever Citizens wish to help with this ongoing effort, VDOT safety guidelines can be accessed here.  Orange trash bags are available at all of the County's Convenience Centers and the County Administration Office.  Vests & signage are also available at the Administration Office.  Please be safe.
