BURN BAN FOR CHARLOTTE COUNTY

September 26, 2019

Charlotte County has put an open-air burn ban in place, effective immediately.  Due to dangerously dry conditions that will cause rapid fire spread, any open-air fires in Charlotte County will be unlawful.

Notice will be posted when conditions improve and the burn ban is lifted.

REGARDING BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

Public Notice is hereby given that the Board of Equalization for Charlotte County will meet on the days listed below for the purpose of hearing complaints of inequalities including errors in acreage.  Upon hearing such complaints, either oral or written, the Board will give consideration and increase, decrease or affirm such real estate assessments.  Before a change can be granted, the taxpayer or his agent must overcome a clear presumption in favor of the assessment.  The taxpayer or agent must provide a preponderance of the evidence that the assessment of the property is not uniform with the assessments of other similar properties or that the property is assessed in excess of its fair market value. 

Appointments will be scheduled every 15 minutes to minimize waiting.  To appear before the Board of Equalization please call 434-547-4032 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Meetings of the Board to hear objections will be held at the Charlotte County Administration Office, 250 LeGrande Avenue, Suite A, Charlotte Court House, VA.  Dates & times for hearings are as follows:

October 7, 2019 - 9:00 am to Noon
October 10, 2019 - 9:00 am to Noon
October 17, 2019 - 9:00 to Noon

If necessary, additional dates will be scheduled and advertised.


2019 ELECTION INFORMATION

Absentee Voting begins Friday, Sept. 20, 2019.
The Voter Registrar's Office hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday

The Registrar's Office will be open the following Saturdays for In-Person Absentee Voting:
Oct. 26, 2019 – 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Nov. 2, 2019 – 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The deadline for Absentee Voting by mail is:
Oct. 29, 2019
